  5. Maybe the archives should have a file on downloading binary-type files, it's
  6. a question which comes up fairly often...

  8. GIF files are binary.  To FTP a GIF file, you have to tell ftpd this.  In most
  9. implementations of FTP you must say TYPE I (or TYPE IMAGE) followed by TYPE L 8
  10. (or TYPE TENEX).  Sometimes the second one isn't necessary, but I have never
  11. had it create problems.  This will get a file from a FTPserver to a local host.

  13. Now, using Kermit, you dial up the local host and say (on the host end)
  14. SET FILE TYPE BINARY (or whatever the syntax is on your implementation)
  15. and on the Mac end pick Data fork, Binary file.  This works for GIF files.
  16. For most other files set the options on the Mac end to MacBinary.
